At least 89 people lost their lives over the weekend as a tornado outbreak rolled through the city of Joplin, Missouri. Joplin Fire chief Mitch Randles told the Detroit Free Press the tornado damaged between 25 and 30 percent of the town, including his own house.

USA Today reports President Barack Obama was briefed on the tornado outbreak while aboard Air Force One. The president is in Ireland today, visiting his ancestral homeland.
