April is the Month of the Military Child, and also Autism Awareness Month. It therefore seems fitting that folks trying to bring awareness to the plight of military children with autism have planned a special benefit on their behalf this weekend at Mission Bay Park in San Diego.

The "2nd Annual ACT Today! for Military Families 5k/10k Run and Community Festival to Benefit Local Military Children with Autism" will take place Saturday, April 7th, from 7:30am – 11:00am.

At least 23,000 military children have autism, according to data obtained by Autism Speaks.

According to Autism Speaks:

Military life is particularly difficult for children with autism and their families. Given the frequent duty station changes and social turmoil of military service, military children with autism often face additional challenges with which their civilian counterparts do not have to contend.
