The U.S. Navy is investigating a collision that took place in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday between the USS Porter and a Japanese owned merchant vessel. No one was hurt in the collision, and the Strait of Hormuz is still open for business.
The USS Porter is a Norfolk-based U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer.
According to the Navy:
The collision between USS Porter (DDG 78) and the Panamanian-flagged bulk oil tanker M/V Otowasan occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. local time. Porter transited under its own power to Jebel Ali, UAE and is now pierside for assessment and repair.
