The U.S. Navy hasn't announced the exact date of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group's return. The Makin Island ARG deployed from San Diego on November 14, 2011.
U.S. Navy Capt. Donald R. Cuddington, commander, Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) Five, said recently of the Makin Island ARG's deployment:
"I could not be more pleased with the hard work and dedication from every Sailor and Marine. Each individual's outstanding professionalism and dedication to their training during our pre-deployment phase and through this deployment contributed greatly and was the key to the overall success of the Makin Island ARG and 11th MEU team."
When the Makin Island departed Hawaii for the last leg of its journey home to San Diego on June 14th, 265 family members of the crew joined the ship for a "Tiger Cruise" - an opportunity for loved ones to see what life on board is like for a Makin Island crew member. According to a Navy news release:
Activities scheduled for the cruise include a sea and air power demonstration, live fire hose and pipe patching drills, as well as live-fire exercises with the .50-caliber machine gun, M-240, M-203 and the close-in weapon system.
Home Post will let you know the Makin Island's arrival date just as soon as we find out!
