"American Sniper" — the movie based on Navy SEAL Chris Kyle's bestselling memoir of the same name — has been nominated for Best Picture by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Bradley Cooper, who portrayed Kyle in the movie, got a nomination for Best Actor.
Kyle's widow, Taya, wrote recently on Facebook about what it was like for her to watch "American Sniper":
"I guarantee you will see and feel Chris in this movie. You will also feel the story of many of our veterans and their families from all of our wars. Our stories may have different details, but our battles are astoundingly similar."
Cooper actually had the opportunity to talk with Kyle before the Navy SEAL's untimely death in February 2013. Cooper told USA Today:
“Thank God I got to talk to him once on the phone. It was a very quick conversation. But I did tell him how serious I was about making this movie. And he should just know that whatever fears he had about Hollywood, to just put them aside and trust me. That I was going to do everything I could to tell this story.”
"American Sniper" opens in wide release on Friday. Are you planning to go see it?
