Military Commissaries To Close Mondays Due To Sequestration

The effects of sequestration are about to hit home for many military families. The Defense Commissary Agency announced today most military commissaries will soon be closed on Mondays.

The civilian employees who work at the commissaries will receive furlough notices starting May 28, a consequence of sequestration cuts. Defense Commissary Agency CEO Joseph H. Jeu explained:

Navy Dolphins Make Surprising Find Off Coronado Coast (Video)

Two Navy dolphins trained to search for underwater explosives made a surprising discovery off the coast of Coronado. Using their keen dolphin sonar, "Ten" and "Spetz" found an extremely rare 19th century Howell torpedo.

Mike Rothe of the The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command told the Los Angeles Times it was Ten who first identified the unusual object under water. A week later, Spetz also identified the object.

Camp Pendleton Marine To Honor Fallen Military Dog 'Cpl. Tick'

A military working dog named Cpl. Tick was killed on May 14, 2012 in an improvised explosive device blast in Afghanistan. Cpl Tick's handler, Lance Cpl. Bryan Utrilla, will honor her on the one-year anniversary of her death by placing her dog tags on the Camp Pendleton cross memorial.

Ex-Camp Pendleton Marine Jailed In Iran Sends Letters Home

For the first time in the more than 600 days that Camp Pendleton Marine veteran Amir Hekmati has been held captive in Iran, he was able to send letters to his family in the United States.

Navy's 1st Squadron Of Drones Based At NAS North Island (Video)
