U.S. Pilot Killed In Afghanistan Jet Crash

A U.S. pilot died in a plane crash in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday.

According to a NATO International Security Assistance Force news release, the site of the plane crash was located and the pilot's remains recovered:

While the cause of the crash is under investigation, initial reporting indicates there was no insurgent activity in the area at the time of the crash.

Post Office Named In Honor Of Fallen Camp Pendleton Marine

A post office in the hometown of fallen Camp Pendleton Marine Lance Cpl. Victor A. Dew is being named this morning in his honor.

The House of Representatives unanimously approved a resolution to dedicate the Granite Bay Post Office in memory of Dew, according to a U.S. Post Office news release. Dew grew up in the Northern California town, and graduated from Granite Bay High School in 2008.

Military Moms Step Up As Troops In Afghanistan Lose Hot Meals

As the withdrawal of U.S. forces continues in Afghanistan, hot meals are being replaced by MREs (meals ready-to-eat). In response, a group of military moms has started a Facebook site called "Breakfast for Bagram," to send breakfast foods to troops overseas.

Soldier Dies Of Illness In Afghanistan

Army Chief Warrant Officer Curtis S. Reagan, 43, died March 29 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, from a non-combat related illness, according to the Department of Defense.

The Pentagon has not specifically named the illness that killed Reagan.

Reagan was from Summerville, South Carolina. He was assigned to the 603rd Aviation Support Battalion, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia.

California Nat'l Guard Soldiers From San Diego Deploying To Afghanistan

Roughly 70 California Army National Guard soldiers from the San Diego-based 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team will leave Tuesday for a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan, according to a National Guard news release.
