College Football Star Turned Soldier Killed In Afghanistan (Video)

Army Sgt. 1st Class Samuel C. Hairston, 35, was killed in Ghazni, Afghanistan on Aug. 12, when he was hit by small-arms fire during combat, according to the Department of Defense.

KPRC-TV reports Hairston attended the University of Houston, and was a defensive lineman for the school's football team from 1997 to 2000.

He joined the Army in 2003.

Green Beret Dies Of Gunshot Wound Suffered In Afghanistan

Army Sgt. 1st Class Andrew T. Weathers, 30, died Sept. 30 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany from a gunshot wound suffered during combat in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on Sept. 28.

The Army Times reports Weathers was a Green Beret and Special Forces medical sergeant, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

Air Force Sgt. Charged With Stealing Credit Card Info From Service Members

Retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Christopher Underwood, 42, was charged Monday with wire fraud, bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft - after allegedly stealing credit card information from fellow service members in the San Diego area.

According to NBCSanDiego.com, the indictment against Underwood claims he used his military identification to use on-base gyms, then pilfered credit card info he found in service members' belongings that were unattended during workouts ...
