USS Carl Vinson Continues Airstrikes In Campaign Against ISIS (Video)

The Navy released video Tuesday of the San Diego-based USS Carl Vinson conducting airstrikes as part of the U.S. military campaign against ISIS, officially known as Operation Inherent Resolve.

The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group departed San Diego on Aug. 22 for a nine-month deployment to the the Navy's 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility, which includes the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf.

Twentynine Palms Marine Killed In Afghanistan

Marine Corps Sgt. Thomas Z. Spitzer, 23, was killed Wednesday in Helmand province, Afghanistan while conducting combat operations, according to the Department of Defense.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

Spitzer was a native of New Braunfels, Texas. The Desert Sun reports he joined the Marines on Aug. 17, 2009.

Camp Pendleton Navy Corpsman To Be Awarded Navy Cross

The commanding general of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) will award Navy Chief Petty Officer Justin Wilson the Navy Cross at a Camp Pendleton ceremony on Nov. 25.

The Military Times reports Wilson, 36, works as a special amphibious reconnaissance corpsman assigned to MARSOC's 1st Marine Special Operation Battalion, which is based at Camp Pendleton.
